Carson's last summer

I was standing at the kitchen sink, rinsing out my coffee cup, when I heard the sound of the lawn mower being fired up, and I couldn't help but chuckle as I peeked out the window and saw my industrious young neighbor, Carson Taylor pushing the machine along. The lawn needed mowing maybe three times a month, but this must have been the third time young Carson had come over to do it this week. I didn't have the heart to tell him not to do it, because he seemed to enjoy doing it, or at least that was what he claimed when he offered to start doing it last year. Before then, my life partner Jeff had done the lawn work while I tended to the gardening, but after he passed away in that car accident almost two years ago, Carson volunteered his services, and when I checked with his mother to make sure it was okay with her, she was all for it. Times have changed, I thought to myself. It had become common knowledge that I was gay, but in the ten years Jeff and I had lived in this neighborh...

Carjob

My old car was giving me a fit! I'd already spent hundreds of dollars trying to keep it running until after the first of the year, when trade-ins are at their highest, but if I spent any more money on it, I'd be better off fixing it right, and keeping it for another year. So, off I went to my usual garage mechanic to get it tuned up, and checked out for the oncoming cold months. When I got to Jerry's, it was closed! No note on the door, no nothing. I'd never thought about them before, only buying what I needed there, usually in the way of household supplies, since, like most "buying clubs," they sold most things only in case lots. I walked into the service bay, and was delightfully surprised to see this gorgeous SilverFox behind the desk. His name patch said "Pete" over the pocket. Thinning silver hair, nice bushy walrus mustache, and piercing amber eyes, too light to be called hazel ...

Camping with Uncle Dan

Chapter 1: Me and Dan. I had only vague memories of my Uncle Dan, but I recognized him right away as I pulled in front of the cabin at the end of the bumpiest dirt road imaginable. A rough looking guy with his now-gray hair still in a crew cut just like back when he was in the Navy, he still looked fit and trim despite his age, which I guessed to be about mid-50's. He was shirtless and wore only a pair of khaki shorts and sandals as he waved to me while coming down the steps of the rustic old cabin. Deeply tanned, his chest and forearms were covered with a mat of gray fur, although his legs were relatively hairless. "Timmy my boy!" Uncle Dan growled in his gruffest voice, his smile giving away his pleasure at seeing me again. "Boy, have you changed! Become quite a big fellow, haven't you?" "I guess," I admitted, now looking at him for the first time at eye level after having to look up in my younger years. We were both about 5'9" or so, an...
